Those needs that are satisfied in the presence of a separate house, namely the need for land, cattle maintenance, economic courtyard and buildings, isolation from the neighboring environment, conditions for the harvesting and storage of products, are now stronger than the needs satisfied in the event of life in an apartment building. This is quite natural, since the needs for communal amenities in the rural population, although they are formed, are still developed relatively poorly. This fact was established by research conducted at the Leningrad branch of the Institute of Technical Aesthetics. Initially, the interviewed families slightly reacted to the opportunity to establish water supply, bathroom, heating in the house, improve the sanitary and hygienic condition of the house. But during the conversations, demonstration of the available water supply, heating, equipment of the bathroom and assignization, obtaining information about their cost and methods of acquisition, interest began to grow and the number of people wishing to acquire this or that technical device quickly increased. What are objective housing conditions of the rural population? Three of its features characterizing belonging, the degree of isolation of the degree of improvement are important here. Of the 1,500 families examined in 1972.,.59%lived in their own homes, in houses belonging to collective farms – 26, to other departments – 12, 1st -Soviets – 1, 2%to relatives and private individuals – 2%.. Individual development was about 70% of the housing stock. If in the cities of the country in 1970. 70% of families lived in apartment buildings, then in the village 70-80% of families live in separate, mainly their own houses. According to our examination, the share of such families in 1972. "amounted to 66%, while 13% of families lived in apartments of apartment buildings. The discrepancy between the shares of families living in separate and in their own homes is small. According to the survey conducted in the same years, the individual development was about 70% of the housing stock.
